Police Vehicle Auctions
So you’re at a stage that no one needs to convince you that there are bargains to be had at police vehicle auctions. Maybe all you need is just simply a good blueprint to follow which will turn all your hard work into actual auction success. If you follow these next steps (4 phases) you will have started your successful journey to auction riches.
The Car Inspection
This can be pretty much described as a gift from the auctioneer – the chance to have a really good look at the vehicle. Make sure that you use it!! Now we all know that you don’t actually have the opportunity to test-drive the vehicle, but you can do other things like starting the engine to listen for any suspicious noises, potential problems, etc.
The Vehicle Identification Number
Where most people get into trouble is when they overlook the fundementals. Without any significant monetary outlay you’ll be able to obtain a basic report on the ‘life’ and history of the car, using its VI number. This report provides valuable insights into the cars’ history and can ultimately be a dealbreaker for you in deciding on whether to bid on a vehicle at police auctions or not
The Title of the Car
It’s common for the police to check if the car has a clean title before it’s being auctioned. It’s also very common that they don’t do a thorough job of it. Best to check this yourself as you do not want to sit with a financing house repossessing the car you just bought.
Valuing the Vehicle
Entering into a bidding round at an auction for a vehicle without a reliable valuation is pretty much an act of suicide. It’s sort of like starting a camp fire completely covered in kerosene. Not knowing the valuation of the car will result in you bidding for it until you won. The will normally be at a price significantly greater than what it is actually worth. Therefore it’s imperative that you have a good ‘handle’ on the valuation so to stop you not bidding a cent more than its fair value.
With all of this information you will usually be perfectly prepped for a standard police vehicle auction. Many people also get caught up with the events on the day – especially true for live public events. The secret to success is to remain calm and stay on course with your strategy. The most successful bidders the ones that remain relaxed and collected. With their fixed strategy they usually walk away as the winners.
